Resources Online (PNGTRO) is a volunteer initiative of
Samson Komati Yuimb to promote PNG as a tourist destination on the Internet by
featuring needed information for potential travelers. This website
complements PNG tourism bureau (
PNGTPA) management and
board's work in promoting PNG as a best tourism destination.

Few
Facts on Papua New GuineaPapua New Guinea (PNG)
is an independent democratic nation located north of Australia
and east of Indonesia.
PNG enjoys a stable and vibrant democracy, a Westminister system of
government, a capitalistic economic system, and is home of 5.2
million people. Regarded as "the world's last frontier", PNG is
richly blessed with huge deposits of natural resources. The annual
national government budget is K4.2 billion (just past US$1 billion).
Land size is one-third larger than the American state of California.
Gross Domestic Product per capital is US$350. Economy is
predominantly export-based. There are 700 distinct native languages
spoken in PNG while English is the formal language of education,
business, and professional communication. Population growth rate is
2.6 percent. Literacy rate is 4.5 percent. About 95 percent of the
population live in remote rural villages, removed from
modernization, and actively engaged in subsistence farming. Regarded
internationally as "the world's last frontier", PNG is ranked in the
top 10 eco-tourism destinations and heads the top 5 diving spot in
the world. PNG is a living cultural, biological, and ecological
theatre. Home to over over over 1, 000 different native tribes
spread across the 20 provinces of the country, PNG is an eco-tourism
hot spot. The spectacular Beaver Falls (PNG's version of Niagara
Falls), the pristine Lake Kutubu, the world renowned limestone Caves
of Pomio, the World War II relics, the magnificient diving spots of
Walindi, Tufi, New and Ireland, the 2, 500 species of native
orchids, 350 different kinds of birds (including the 38 species of
the colorful Birds of Paradise), 400 species of banana, the Sepik
wild crocodiles, the Mt. Giluwe wild dogs, the great white shark
species of the Bismark Sea, the endless Owen Stanley (Mountain)
Ranges, the snow-covered Mt. Whilhelm at 4500 metres high, the
largest butterfly on earth (Queen Alexandria Birdwing), 40 million
hectares of rainforest cover (second only to Amazon), the rugged
landscape of the highlands, the lush jungles of the lowlands, the
fast flowing Sepik River and the colossal Fly River, and the
breath-taking view from the sky over PNG offers international
